In the dawning year

we will linger on our verandahs

pointing out homeward-bound geese in the sky.

Our freely frolicking children

will gambol under our gaze

chasing each other through field grasses.

And yet again you will see

just how good it will be

in the dawning year.

Sun-scarleted grapes

will ripen warm with a day's sweetness

until evening blushes them blue

cooling on our dinner table.

And soughing breezes will sweep along

spiralling well-read newspapers.

And yet again you will see

just how good it will be

in the dawning year.

In the dawning year

we will embrace the white dawn

with open palms spread as wide as the dawn.

The sunbeams will dawn

white over the dawn-white heron

who will spread out her wings as wide as the dawn

and the dawn will dawn through all.

And yet again you will see

just how good it will be

in the dawning year.
