Como Dos Extraños —
Just Two Strangers

Just Two Strangers

Translation Jordana del Feld

Como Dos Extraños

Pedro Laurenz y José María Contursi, 1940

I was terrified of being alone

I was terrified of dying far from you

Everyday life mocked me

And made me want to cry.

My heart begged me

To search for you and to tell you my love

My heart begged me

So I searched for you

And I believed you would save me.

And now here I am, right in front of you

And now we're just two strangers.

And now I know:

Time changes everything.

It's so hard to admit

That hope and faith are dead.

I hope you'll excuse my tears;

These memories do me wrong.

The sunlight paled

When it heard you sound so cold

Our love was unique to us

And I grieve to admit

That it's all really over.

It was such a huge mistake,

Going back to see you

Carrying my heart with me in little tiny pieces!

Now a thousand ghosts taunt me

Throwing hours of that dead past at my head.

And now here I am, right in front of you

And now we're just two strangers.

And now I know:

Time changes everything.

It's so hard to admit

That hope and faith are dead.

I hope you'll excuse my tears;

These memories do me wrong.
