El Día que me Quieras —
The Day You Love Me

El Día Que Me Quieras

Carlos Gardel, Alfredo le Pera, 1935.

The Day You Love Me

Translation Jordana del Feld

Your tender murmuring sighs caress my dreams,

and how life would laugh if your dark eyes care to see me!

And the song of your laugh gives me refuge

and solace from my pain

And all is forgotten.

The day you love me

the blooming roses will dress themselves in their very best colours.

Soft breezes from the fields will sigh that you are mine

and splashing fountains will sing me your love.

The night you love me

the sparkling stars will gaze down at us from their azure heavens

and a ray of starshine will nestle in your dark hair

for you are my refuge and my tenderest solace.

The day you love me

there will be nothing but harmony,

and the clear light of dawn,

and the happy joy of spring.

Soft breezes will sough sweet melodies,

and tinkling fountains will give us their crystal-noted songs.

The day you love me

the lark will sing its sweetest songs,

life will blossom,

and there will never again be such things as suffering and pain.

The night you love me

the sparkling stars will gaze down at us from their azure heavens

and a ray of starshine will nestle in your dark hair

for you are my refuge and my tenderest solace.
